Intra-College Criminal Law Moot Court Session Held for Final-Year Students (2025)
The Unity Law College successfully organized an Intra-College Moot Court Session on Criminal Law for final-year students of both the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.B. programs on March 7th, 2025. The event was aimed at honing courtroom advocacy, legal reasoning, and procedural understanding as part of the college’s commitment to experiential legal education. The competition was structured to simulate a realistic criminal trial scenario, giving participants an opportunity to argue as both prosecution and defense counsels before a bench comprising distinguished faculty members and invited alumni with litigation experience. The moot problem dealt with contemporary issues in criminal jurisprudence, touching upon sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and recent judicial interpretations.

This event marked yet another milestone in the college’s continuous efforts to promote critical thinking and advocacy skills in alignment with constitutional values and democratic principles. The moot problem centered around Right to Dignified Life, Writ Jurisdiction, and the validity of legislative action under the Constitution of India. Students were challenged to represent both the petitioner and respondent before a simulated bench of the Supreme Court, applying complex constitutional doctrines and precedent.

The Unity Law College conducted an Intra-College Moot Court Competition on Family Law for final-year students of the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.B. programs on April 16 and 17, 2025. The competition focused on a complex and thought-provoking area of matrimonial litigation — divorce sought on the ground of mental illness. The moot problem revolved around a husband filing for divorce under Section 13(1)(iii) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, claiming that his wife was suffering from a mental disorder rendering the marriage untenable. The problem required participants to address issues such as the definition of “mental disorder”, the standard of proof, rights of persons with mental illness, and judicial interpretations balancing compassion with legal standards.

Unity Law College successfully organized an Intra-College Conventional Debate Competition on “The Waqf Amendment Act, 2025: Balancing Transparency and Religious Autonomy” on 22nd April 2025. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, with 10 teams and 3 individual speakers presenting well-researched arguments on this timely and significant legislative development. The competition provided a platform for students to engage in critical discourse, showcasing their analytical and oratory skills.
